BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:30 P.M.) – The Egyptian Armed Forces were able to manufacture the ghostly corvette in the Alexandria Naval Shipyard Company in cooperation with their French allies.
Egypt celebrated the inauguration of the first Ghoweind frigate, which was built at Alexandria Shipyard Company in 2018.
The French shipyards in Lorient began building the first corvette, which was later called “Sajim Al-Fateh” in April 2015, and it appeared almost a year later in September 2016 in France in the presence of the Commander of the Egyptian Navy, Lieutenant General Osama Rabei, and Egypt received it on September 22, 2017, where it entered service in October of the same year.
At the same time that the first corvette appeared in 2016, there were major works going on inside the Alexandria Shipyard Company in Egypt to build the second Corvette, and it was launched in September 2018, and it was called “Sajim Port Said”, and it is expected that it will enter the actual service this year.
In parallel with the construction of the corvette Sajim Port Said, the Egyptian cadres in the Alexandria Shipyard Company began building the third corvette, which is the second in the list of domestically-made corvettes.
Specifications of the Egyptian Choweind
The corvette is 102 meters long, 16 meters wide, and weighs 2,600 tons. It has the ability to reach a speed of 25 knots and sail for 4,500 miles at a speed of 15 knots with a diesel-electric propulsion system.
The Al-Mo’az crew has 65 sailors, is capable of carrying 15 other special forces personnel, and is armed with 8 surface-to-surface missiles, MM-40 anti-ship missiles with a range of 200 km, and 16 surface-to-air”missiles. They are also armed with MICA VL 20 km self-defense air defense, 76 mm gun, 20 mm guns, and anti-submarine torpedo launchers. It carries two speedboats for special forces, two UAV dronse for surveillance and a 10-ton helicopter to fight submarines.
In electronics terms, the corvette has the SETIS battle management system, SMART-S radar, a set of electronic warfare systems that include Sylena booby traps.
These corvettes are characterized by a multitude of combat missions against surface ships and secondary air defense, and enhanced submarine control and anti-mine measures.
