A group of high-ranking Egyptian scholars lashed out at Yusuf al-Qaradawi, an Egyptian Islamic theologian, for spreading Wahhabi ideology across Arab and Islamic world, which highlights the differences between different Islamic sects and eventually leads to bloody clashes.
Qaradawi, chairman of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, has been a staunch devotee of the Islamic rebellion that destabilized some Arabic countries in early 2011, known as “Arab Spring”.
The Wahhabi ideology, adopted by Qaradawi and other extremist clergymen is, by many, held responsible for sowing discord and strife between Sunnis and Shiites, thus jeopardizing the whole region with an all-out civil war.
