Soldiers in military vehicles proceed towards the al-Jura district in El-Arish city from Sheikh Zuwaid, around 350 km (217 miles) northeast of Cairo May 21, 2013. Egyptian army and police forces stepped up roadblocks in north Sinai in a hunt for militant Islamists who kidnapped seven security officers last week, a security source said on Tuesday.

DAMASCUS, SYRIA (1:35 P.M.) – On Monday night, the Egyptian Army launched their largest military operation this year, targeting the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) positions in the Sinai Peninsula.

The Egyptian Army’s military operation will focus on the area southeast of Sheikh Zweid, which is a town located near the Rafah border-crossing.

ISIS travels from Palestine’s Gaza Strip using the Rafah border-crossing; this is one of the many reasons why the Egyptian Army has beefed up their security in this region.

This latest military offensive comes just hours after after they completed a 22 day operation in the Sinai Peninsula.
