BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:20 P.M.) – In a report by Sputnik Arabic, the Russian agency said Egypt signed a contract with Russia to supply 400-500 T-90MS tanks to the Egyptian Army, while also allowing them to obtain technologies to produce tanks in Egypt.
The report emphasized that this deal will significantly increase Egypt’s military strength in the region, making it the largest operator of the T-90MS tanks.
The agency noted that information about this contract has been available since 2017, as Moscow and Cairo signed a set of agreements on the supply of weapons and military equipment worth about $ 3.5 billion, then followed by a number of large arms contracts, and Egypt has long been a major importer of Russian weapons.
Sputnik noted that Egypt’s possession of 500 T-90 tanks could cause a technological revolution in the tank forces of the Arab Republic, and information about the contract has already raised concerns with the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
The Russian agency indicated that the assembly of T-90MS tanks is more profitable for Egypt because the cost of Russian tanks in the global market is two to three times less than its western counterparts.
The T-90 “Vladimir” is the main Russian fighting tank. The tank was named after its designer, Vladimir Ivanovich Potkin.
In the period from 2001 to 2010, this tank became the best-selling in the world, as the purchase price of T-90 under delivery contracts for the Russian armed forces reached 70 million rubles, and after only one year the price became 118 million rubles, equivalent to about $4 million.
Among the most important weapons on the tank is a 125 mm machine gun capable of firing super-explosive and hollow explosives remotely, and guided missiles of the “Reflex” and “Cobra” types of anti-tank and armor of all kinds and helicopters.
As for the tank fire control system, its characteristics exceed all foreign counterparts, as the tank speed or the target, the air temperature, the wind speed, the air pressure, the angle of inclination of the cannon and other additional factors are calculated before launch, which allows the destruction of any target with one shot.
It is noteworthy to mention that the Russian media confirmed that Egypt wants to obtain the promising Russian “Armata” tanks, after Russia announced its willingness to export it.
