BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:15 P.M.) – Egypt will send peacekeeping forces to Syria in the coming days, as they attempt to administer the nationwide ceasefire among their Russian, Iranian, and Turkish diplomatic partners.

Egypt will partake in this diplomatic mission to freeze the bloodshed that is obstructing peace talks in Syria, Al-Arabiya reported on Friday.

In November, the Egyptian Army sent a group of officers to Syria, marking the first time in several years that any Egyptian military personnel have made this journey.

Despite breaking ties with Syria under the now deposed president, Mohammad Morsi, the Egyptian government has actively worked to restore ties with Damascus and end the conflict plaguing the country.

I wouldn’t call them Nasserists. The change of direction towards Damascus is not enough.

I don’t belie e they did it out od the kindness of their own heart but rather trying to line the coffers with russian rubles. It’s clear to anyone not blinded by nationalism that Russia is there to stay in Syria, it’s a real chance for Hezbollah and Israel to come to an accord given that the ruskies won’t play that t*t for tat killing just to prove my God is better than yours mentality both camps seem to be stuck on. Very risky operation and Egypt being already plagued, these force should better be used to cleanse Sinai! Peacekeeping with takfiris? I’m very dubious! I already see it coming as big as a truck : they’ll keep quiet for a little while then we’ll see EXACTLY the same kind of actions the blue helmet had in Lebanon in 1983… Remember the Drakkar building and the Beirut barracks on the airport? The best thing Egypt can do is to send 50-100 combat aircraft to help destroying terrorists! The job is far to be finished and well, due to the groups who signed… Read more »
