BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – Police clashed with residents of al-Warraq island who came out to protest the death of two people earlier in the day on Sunday. Police were attempting to evict residents from homes deemed illegal when the violence broke out.

Police fired shots into the air and used tear gas on the protesters.

A statement released by the Interior Ministry said policemen were met with fierce resistance from residents when they arrived to clear the homes prompting them to retaliate with tear gas and rubber bullets.
