Free Syrian Army forces mobilize in the eastern Qalamoun region, 2017 (Source: Qasioun News).

BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:55 P.M.) – Recently, besieged rebel forces operating throughout the eastern Qalamoun mountains claimed a fake assault on the Syrian Army in a bizarre attempt to pressure government negotiators into offering them a better deal.

Specifically, the Free Syrian Army-linked Ahmad Abdo Martyrs Brigade said that it had stormed the positions of government forces in the Mahsaa area. According to Al-Masdar News sources, no such attack has taken place.

It should be understood that rebel groups holding out in the eastern Qalamoun region are hopelessly outnumbered in addition to being completely surrounded. Despite years of relative peace, they have now been marked for removal by the Syrian Army.

Knowing that a Syrian Army offensive which will seem them removed from eastern Qalamoun mountains is right around the corner, some militant factions have undertaken it upon themselves to claim fake attacks as a means to try trick government negotiators into thinking they are strong than is actually the case.
