BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:00 A.M.) – A large number of Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) fighters have escaped the Baghouz pocket in eastern Deir Ezzor and made their way to the Palmyra countryside, a military source near the ancient city told Al-Masdar News last night.

According to the military source, the Islamic State fighters have now taken refuge in the desert region near the T-2 Pumping Station, which was previously under the control until the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched their offensive to capture Albukamal in southeast Deir Ezzor.

On Monday, the escaped ISIS fighters carried out another powerful attack against the Syrian Army troops near Palmyra, prompting the Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) to get involved for the first time in several weeks.

The Islamic State was reportedly involved in a heated battle with the Syrian Army for a couple hours on Monday; it would end once the Syrian Air Force began to launch airstrikes on the terrorist combatants in the Palmyra countryside.

Many Islamic State fighters had previously attempted to evade capture in the Baghouz area of Deir Ezzor by crossing the Euphrates and fleeing into the vast Syrian Desert.

While several Islamic State fighters were eventually captured trying to cross the Euphrates, dozens of others were believed to have successfully crossed the river, including some high-ranking terrorist commanders.

one can ask why SAA did not guard the river banks. It is not that very difficult to station forces near the bank. Sloppy planning? Indifference? Anyway, not the fault of SDF but of SAA. Consequences to SAA. Btw, it is well known that a large number of IS have been gathering in the Badiya, likely several thousand, driven away by SDF and also from Safa area.

Could be because of potential threat of attacks by US, bombing of SAA forces and alies is what I am getting at.

Unless You are paid to read and write here and need the money, You dont have to be here at all. And I do read Saudi oppinions too. I dont read here only. And why ? Well, to know the many other opinions and Saudis are a very important part. If You dont like Saudis, it stil is important to know them to find their weak spots to defaet and neutralize them.
