BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIL) launched a large-scale counter-offensive along the Homs-Deir Ezzor border, Thursday, targeting the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) positions in the Humaymah area near the T-2 Pumping Station.
ISIL began the assault by firing several mortar shells towards the Syrian Army’s positions northwest of Humaymah; they would follow this up with a ground assault that targeted a hilltop the latter uses to launch missiles towards the T-2 Station.
However, ISIL’s ground assault would take a disastrous turn after Syrian Army units rained anti-tank guided missiles on their pressing forces in the Humaymah area.
The Islamic State assault in the Humaymah area would end within two hours on Thursday, as the battlefield was littered with the terrorist group’s corpses and destroyed vehicles.
According to a military source in Palmyra, the Syrian Arab Army more than 35 Islamic State terrorists on Thursday, while also destroying four armored vehicles and a tank.
Recently, the Islamic State has been trying to recover territory in the Humaymah area after losing a lot of ground to the Syrian Arab Army over the last three weeks – all counter-offensives have ultimately failed.
