BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:15 P.M.) – Among a flurry of incoming reports about an apparently critical military situation for the Syrian Army in its battle against ISIS in the southern Damascus district of Al-Qadam, some sources are reporting that a number of government troops have become trapped behind the terrorist group’s lines.
To be clear, Al-Masdar News cannot verify such reports at the present time, and as far as our sources tell us, Al-Qadam has not fallen to Islamic State militants, with control of the district between the Syrian Army and ISIS being split about 50/50.
In any case, one pro-government source has reported in the last day that five Syrian Army troops who apparently became trapped behind ISIS lines in Al-Qadam were rescued during a small counter-attack.
The same added that more Syrian soldiers remain isolated throughout what are now Islamic State-controlled area of the district.
Updates to come.
