BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:35 P.M.) – Warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces are in the midst of a major operation over the skies of Idlib province, targeting rebel forces at multiple towns across the region.

According to military-affiliated sources, the airstrikes have been ongoing since Tuesday morning – reports say that at least five Russian fighters are currently involved in the operation at the time of this report.

Militant storage sites, bases and movements are being targeted at the city of Jisr ash-Shugur as well as the towns of Areeha, Jabal az-Zawiyah, Jabal al-Arbeen, Barsangol, As-Sukkariyah, Halouz, Al-Ghassaniyah and Al-Mastourmah.

For almost a week now, Russian airpower has been carrying out a great number of airstrikes against jihadist forces across northwest Syria, purportedly in response to intelligence that armed rebel groups in the region have been planning for a huge offensive against the Syrian Army.
