BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:09 A.M.) – Around midnight on the night of Sunday to Monday, Islamic State forces launched a general offensive against the Syrian Army in Homs and Deir Ezzor provinces.
The terrorist attack has so far targeted government positions along the strategic Homs to Deir Ezzor highway – specifically the section of road running between the town of As-Sukhnah to the city of Deir Ezzor.
According to Al-Masdar News journalist Ibrahim Houdeh, the ISIS onslaught has resulted in fierce clashes at multiple points throughout eastern Homs and western Deir Ezzor provinces.
So far no reports exist on whether or not Islamic State forces have achieved any advance. At the same time, military sources have not mentioned if the attack was repelled.
