BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:00 A.M.) – The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL/IS/Daesh) has become desperate in the eastern Euphrates region after suffering several setbacks at the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

With thousands of SDF fighters closing in on their last arears, the Islamic State has shifted their attention to the western bank of the Euphrates River, where they hope to breakthrough the Syrian Arab Army’s lines and reach their besieged comrades in the Badiya Al-Sham region.

According to a military report from the Deir Ezzor Governorate, the Islamic State has upped their military activity near the key border city of Albukamal, forcing the Syrian Arab Army to reinforce their lines to prevent any potential infiltration.

While they have managed to beat back all of the attempts, the Syrian Arab Army is anticipating bigger attacks in the coming days as their caliphate continues to dwindle in eastern Syria.

This is a pattern that has been obvious for some time and already many have crossed the river and broke through SAA lines into the large IS pocket in the Badiya. Acc to SOHR at one time over 2000 escaped, killing over 60 SAA at the time. SAA should really coordinate with SDF, reviving the operations room they had near Tabqah, distance themselves from hostility towards SDF and cooperate to improve life for the civilians at both sides of the lines, for a better future of all. Repairing in a coordinated way some, or even better, all damaged bridges would… Read more »
