The powerful pro-government paramilitary unit “Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra” (Desert Hawks Brigade) has official redeployed to the Latakia Governorate after a successful campaign to liberate the ancient cities of Quraytayn and Palmyra (Tadmur) from the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS).
Led by General Aymen Jaber, the Desert Hawks will be tasked with beating back the Jihadist forces in northeastern Latakia and clearing the Aleppo-Latakia Highway (M-4 Highway).
Unlike their allies from the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and National Defense Forces (NDF), the Desert Hawks do not operate under the High Command of the Syrian Armed Forces’ High Command.
Instead, the Desert Hawks operate as an autonomous entity that coordinates with Russia to attack the enemy forces; they are one of the only entities to have the ability to call-in airstrikes.
Originally founded as a group of military contractors protecting General Aymen Jaber’s economic assets in east Syria, the Desert Hawks have transformed into one of the most powerful forces inside the country.
