One day after capturing the strategic city of Deir Al-‘Adrass in northern Dara’a, the Syrian Arab Army’s 7th Mechanized Division and 9th Armored Division pressed further north, capturing the small village of Deir Maker in the Rif Dimashq Governorate.

The operation to capture Deir Maker commenced immediately after the 7th and 9th Divisions were in full-control of Deir Al-Adass; they would follow by taking Tal ‘Arous – a hill south of Deir Maker – before capturing the village on Wednesday morning.

According to a military source in the 7th Division, the SAA forces killed the leader of the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Nusra Front (Jabhat Al-Nusra) before the remaining fighters were encircled and captured. The Al-Nusra Front leader was identified by one of his fighters as an Egyptian national that went by the name of “’Umar ‘Ayoub Al-Masri.”

Some other militants identified by the 7th Division source that were killed in battle:

  1. Mohammad Al-Hamaadi Al-Jaahid
  2. Sa’eed Khayrou Al-Barakat
  3. Firaas Al-Hosni Al-Ghaazli
  4. Ahmad ‘Aroud Al-Saleh

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
