Following their midnight attack on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) stormed the Al-Jafra Quarter and attempted to infiltrate the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) defenses – they were repelled after sustaining significant casualties. ISIS militants have besieged the Al-Jafra Quarter for ten (10) straight days; however, they have been unable to progress farther than the Al-Jafra Preliminary School.

In the nearby Al-Mari’iyyah Quarter, the SAA’s 104th Airborne Brigade of the Republican Guard – backed by the 137th Brigade of the 17th Division and National Defense Forces (NDF) – have countered the ISIS advance near the water tower, killing scores of militants and recapturing a number of building blocks. According to a military source in the 104th Brigade, the SAA is now in control of 70 percent of the Al-Mari’iyyah Quarter, leaving only the southeast perimeter under ISIS control.

ISIS militants launched another attack on the Deir Ezzor Military Airport around 8 A.M. Damascus Time on Friday after their failed attempt to breakthrough SAA defenses last night. Overwhelmed and flabbergasted, ISIS was forced to retreat 800 meters from the eastern corridor of the Military Airport; this attack was costly for ISIS, as a number of dead and wounded militants were spread across the Military Airport.

Identified ISIS militants killed in Deir Ezzor on Friday:

1. Bandar ‘Abdullah Al-Radaadi (Saudi)
2. Sa’eed Abu Farouq (Tunisian)
3. ‘Aqaba Abu Kamaal (Iraqi)
4. ‘Abdel-Kareem Zouba’ Al-Khamees
5. Mohammad Ramadan Al-Za’eeb
6. Hammoud Al-Ahmad Al-Rashiyya’
7. Raami Khaleel, Al-Jabaara
8. Hamad Sa’eed Al-Madaad
