BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:15 A.M.) – Deir ez-Zor residents spoke about their experiences of life under the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), following the liberation of the eastern Syrian city, in Deir ez-Zor, Saturday.
One man said that they were “tortured” and “lived under tyranny for so many years” while IS militants had “all the joys of life.”
Another man said that life under IS was “horrible” and that militants forced residents of the besieged city to dress according to Sharia law.
A girl said that her pregnant mother was taken “out on the street and killed” while her father’s head was “cut off.”
On Friday, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) declared victory over IS in Deir Ez-Zor.
