On Tuesday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 7th Mechanized Division carried out 2 successful ambushes on enemy combatants in northern Dara’a; this resulted in the death of over 30 militants from the Al-Qaeda linked “Al-Nusra Front” (Jabhat Al-Nusra).
The 1st ambush was laid by the 7th Division on the road leading to Al-Lajaat near the Sweida border. Unaware of a pending ambush, the Al-Nusra Front militants attempted to travel south in the wee hours of the morning.
Once the militants reached the vicinity of the entrenched 7th Division, the soldiers would open fire from a hilltop location, killing at least a dozen enemy combatants from the Al-Nusra Front before dawn.
The 2nd ambush was conducted by the 7th Division at the village of Mahjat in northern Dara’a; it was far less of a surprise than the previous one at Al-Lajaat.
The 7th Division ambushed an encroaching Al-Nusra Front contingent making its way to towards their fortifications; however, before the militants could reach their destination, the 7th Division tactfully laid an ambush 300 meters from a checkpoint.
According to a military source, the ambush resulted in the death of 19 Al-Nusra Front militants – the list included 9 identified enemy combatants:
