DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:25 A.M.) – Rebel forces in Busra town of east Daraa countryside handed over all their heavy weapons to the Syrian Army after concluding a reconciliation deal as the government forces continue fight against militants across the southern province.
The handed-over weapons include a BMP vehicle, a towed artillery gun and several machinegun-mounted vehicles.
The Syrian Army and Russian military police are supposed to officially take over the town today or tomorrow.
The Roman-era town, controlled by the FSA-affiliated Shabab al-Sunnah rebel group, has accepted a reconciliation deal with the Syrian government following the massive and subsequent defeats of several other rebels’ strongholds in the southwest Syria.
Handing over the town without fight not only spared the huge destruction caused by shelling, aerial bombardment and firefight, bus also preserved the centuries-old ruins dating back to the Roman and Byzantine area; most importantly the famous Roman Amphitheater.
