DAMASCUS, SYRIA (5:20 P.M.) – Scores of Syrian Army soldiers were killed and injured yesterday when rebel fighters in Daraa opened fire at their convoy in a flagrant violation of the reconciliation deal.
Having agreed to surrender their towns to the Syrian government, militants in Tall Antar and Tall al-Alaqiyat opened fire at the Syrian Army convoys entering the towns as per the agreement.
The ambush killed at least 10 Army troops and wounded several others.
The government forces amassing outside the two towns also came under heavy mortar attack by the militants.
The deadly ambush was met by a decisive response from the Syrian Army, which launched a powerful assault by heavily shelling the towns with artillery and rockets.
