DAMASCUS, SYRIA (10:35 P.M.) – One of the co-founders of Amaq agency, the media wing of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIS), had been killed on Wednesday after US-led international coalition conducted an airstrike on IS-controlled Al-Mayadeen city in Deir Ezzor province, eastern Syria.
Rayan Mash’al (also known as Muhammad Bara’a Qadek) worked as a journalist for a pro-Syrian opposition media outlet in Aleppo.
In 2013, he joined IS and, together with a group of activists, founded what we nowadays know as Amaq agency.
His daughter was also killed as a result of the airstrike, while his wife was hospitalized in critical condition.
