BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:20 P.M.) – The battle for southwest Syria has recently intensified, following the rebel losses along the Jordanian border.
Making matters worse for the rebels on Sunday, the residents of Kharab Al-Sham demanded reconciliation with the Syrian government, despite objections from the opposition groups.
Kharab al-Sham residents cheered on the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) as they made their way through the village in the southern province of Daraa, as footage filmed on Sunday shows.
Civilians welcomed the SAA with chants and victory signs, as government forces entered the village.
Last week, the Syrian government and militant groups reached a ceasefire accord in Daraa during negotiations brokered by Moscow.
The UN has estimated that more than 320,000 people have been displaced in the Daraa region since the beginning of an offensive in the region.
