DAMASCUS, SYRIA (9:00 A.M.) – The Syrian northern city of Raqqa continues to receive devastating airstrikes by the US-led coalition as the Kurdish forces battle against the Islamic State in several neighborhoods inside the city.

Satellite images have been recently released showing the great destruction that has hit the city after hundreds of aerial bombardment by the coalition jets against the terror group.

The airstrikes have not only caused unbelievably substantial damage to the city’s urban districts and infrastructure, but also killed hundreds – if not thousands – of the trapped civilians.

Earlier this week, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 42 civilians by coalition airstrikes including 19 children, raising the number of civilian casualties to 170 within one week.

Yesterday, the United Nation called for a humanitarian truce to allow as many civilians to exit the battleground of Raqqa.

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.

Yes, the vaunted US military’s ability to unleash pip-point accurate attacks…which look more like carpet bombing. This is why no one should ever ask for US ‘help’. No matter if they are with you or agin you, the result is the same: total destruction of your infrastructure and slaughter of your citizens. Yet nothing is said. With help like this, who needs enemies? Kurds, take note…this could be you later.
