BEIJING, CHINA (1:30 P.M.) – China welcomed the news regarding the ceasefire agreement that was reached by Moscow and Washington over the weekend, Spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying stated on Monday.
“China welcomes the agreement on Syria between Russia and the US. Ending the violence is important for the political settlement of the crisis, as well as for the improvement of the humanitarian situation and the fight against terrorism. We call on all parties in Syria to comply with the ceasefire terms,” she noted.
Last week, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry coordinated a package of five documents in Geneva to establish a cessation of hostilities in Syria and lay the basis for the resumption of the political process.
The package includes an agreement on separating the opposition from terrorists, airstrikes against terrorists by Russia and the US, procedures of reacting to ceasefire breaches and delivery of humanitarian aid badly needed by millions people.
The ceasefire will come into effect on Monday, September 12 at 6:45 P.M. (Damascus Time).
