The chief of the Saudi-backed High Negotiations Committee (HNC), Mohammed Alloush, has resigned today over what he described the collapse of the Geneva peace talks with the Syrian government.
In April, the Syrian opposition walked away from the UN-brokered peace talks after accusing the Syrian Army of repeatedly violating the ceasefire.
Alloush is the representative of the Saudi-backed Jaish al-Islam; an Islamist militia fighting government troops in various battlegrounds across Syria, with Douma its main stronghold.
Alloush was overtly accused by Dr. Bashar al-Jafaari, representative of the Syrian government, of being a terrorist and refused to talk to him unless she shaves off his beard.
