The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and its allies seized control of a strip of strategically important mountain terrain north-west of Palmyra, during the course of the recent liberation of the city from ISIS.

Exclusive RT footage captured the aftermath of the battle on Saturday.

The mountains were considered vital to securing Palmyra and are also important due to the oil and gas reserves beneath them, many of which could be seen burning in the distance.

Scores of ISIS terrorists were killed during the operation, with the remainder of the fighters having retreated towards the north-east.
