Iraqi fighters were capable of thwarting an ISIS suicide attack on its forces outside Tal Afar, located nearly 63 km to the west of Mosul.
The Iraqi state-sponsored Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) launched a wide offensive against the Islamic State on Tal Afar, managed to recapture Tal al-Ramj village situated less than 2 km from the city’s airport.
Iraqi fighters destroyed – with a Russian anti-tank guided missile (Cornet) – a booby-trapped vehicle which was approaching the PMU gathering.
The explosion was captured by the pan-Arab Al-Mayadeen TV Channel which was live streaming from the battleground. The intensity of the blast suggests that the vehicle was loaded with tons of highly explosive materials.
