BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:27 P.M.) – Large cargo planes have landed at the Deir Ezzor military airport bringing in supplies and equipment for Syrian forces fighting ISIS as well as civilians living in the nearby provincial capital.

According to a Syrian military source, two large cargo planes landed safely at the Deir Ezzor military airport early this morning. The aircraft carried with them supplies and equipment.

This event marks the first time in over three years that airlifters have landed at the strategic airbase to the southeast of Deir Ezzor city.

The landing of large cargo planes at the Deir Ezzor military airport became possible after pro-government forces secured the towns of Jafrah and Mariyah as well as the nearby Thardah Mountain which dominates the terrain around Deir Ezzor city.
