BEIRUT, LEBANON (3:30 P.M.) – Turkish warplanes were spotted over western Aleppo and northern Idlib, today, prompting the Syrian military to raise their combat alert levels, a source told Al-Masdar News this afternoon.

According to the military source, at least three Turkish warplanes were seen conducting low altitude flights over western Aleppo and northern Idlib.

These aforementioned regions of northwest Syria are currently under the control of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, which is the largest jihadist group that is currently operating in Aleppo and Idlib.

The reason for the Turkish Air Force’ overflights is still unknown at this time; however, they were likely observing the newly reinforced Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham posts in western Aleppo and northern Idlib.

Typically, the Turkish Air Force notifies the Syrian military about their overflights through their Russian mediators; this did not appear to be the case on Thursday.

In the past, the Syrian air defense units did down a Turkish jet that was seen flying along the Latakia coast, but these jets did not enter the government-held areas.
