BEIRUT, LEBANON (5:00 P.M.) – A Turkish court ruled on Friday to release Pastor Andrew Brunson after serving two years in prison, the Reuters News Agency reported.
According to the report, the Turkish court sentenced the pastor to 3 years and a half in prison, but said he would not serve any more time because he spent the last two years under the custody of the federal government.
Witnesses said Brunson wept as the decision was announced. Before the judge’s ruling, the pastor told the court: “I am an innocent man. I love Jesus, I love Turkey.”
With his release, Pastor Brunson is believed to be returning to the United States after spending a decade inside of Turkey.
