DAMASCUS, SYRIA (8:20 P.M.) – Top-ranking official of the so-called “Islamic State”, Fawaz Joubair Al-Rawi, was killed on Friday noon by an airstrike when an international coalition fighter jet targeted the car he was driving on the road between Abu Kamal (Syria) and Al-Qaim (Iraq) towns.
Al-Rawi, 40 years old, was the head of IS financial department in the so-called “Wilayat Al-Furat” (“Euphrates province”) and also was allegedly the head of IS “ministry of finance”.
He worked in Abu Kamal office being responsible for transferring money and was known under the name of “Haji Fawaz”.
Al-Rawi was referred to as “the godfather” of IS financial strategy of bringing money to the self-proclaimed “caliphate” by means of illegal money transfer shops.
