BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:20 P.M.) – The Syrian military is on high alert this evening as Damascus expects Israel to launch a retaliatory attack for the missile fired into the occupied Golan Heights earlier in the day, a source in the capital city confirmed to Al-Masdar News.

The source said that the Syrian military has been placed on high alert across the country, including the western coastal provinces of Latakia and Tartous.

Earlier this month, the Israeli Air Force fired several missiles at a weapons storage near the Damascus International Airport.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that his air force was targeting an Iranian site, which was destroyed as a result of the attack.

Satellite images would confirm days later that the site itself was destroyed by the Israeli Air Force.

In the past, the Israeli Air Force has launched heavy attacks inside Syria in retaliation for any projectiles fired into the occupied Golan Heights region.

You forget a major point : Hague Convention! It stipulate that using proxy militias to do war actions on a country is a de-facto declaration of war from the proxy(s) handler(s). For how long Iran (or Syria in some cases) provoke Israel through Hezbollah, Hamas, PFLP-GC or PIJ while not daring entering into a direct conflict? Actually, it’s even surprising that IDF is not doing strikes directly into Iran, using e.g. SLCMs (submarine-launched cruise missiles) for long! These proxy-actions legally ABSOLUTELY justify any measure seen as appropriate by IDF to armbind Iran or Syria at stopping their behaviour towards the… Read more »

@Daeshbags-Sux, You forget a major point. Israel has publicly admitted that the IDF supported terrorist groups in the Golan and of the Soutern Front. And thus they transgressed the Hague convention plus UN’s A/RES/2625(XXV). And You cannot justify Israel’s aggressions against and inside Syria with the claim that Iran funds the same type actions in Palestine or Lebanon. Iran sends weapons and men to fight against foreign backed terrorists. Because Syria is to broke to fund anything.

OT. I Know I infuriate all, You and others, here with pointing out that the Israeli have a right to live peacefully in their borders – only. And that Israel’s constant aggressions, land claims against neighbors and UN res. 497 and 242 are just unbearable as the demands of the antisemites.

If any Syrian unit fired a surface-to-surface missile towards the Golan Heights then it is likely the commander was operating without orders from Damascus and deserves to be shot. One missile only, so not a co-ordinated attack, but still, to the Israelis, this breaks the rules of the game. And it is a game, and the rules are understood by all parties. Israel maintains it has the right to try and destroy missiles in transit in Syria destined for Hezbollah in Lebanon. As a side issue it also says it has the right to have a go at any Iranian… Read more »
