BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:23 P.M.) – Vanguard battalions of the Syrian Army’s elite Tiger Forces Division have blitzed rebel positions in the eastern Qalamoun region, scoring a major advance over the last 24 hours.

According to military-affiliated sources, the Tiger Forces – backed up by airstrikes from Syrian warplanes – have managed to seize the Al-Kharnuba area and its corresponding mountain as well as the Al-Maselah plain.

By this advance, elite Syrian forces have completely isolated the rebel stronghold town of Ar-Ruhaybah – local militants inside the settlement are expected to accept initially rejected government surrender terms in the very near future.

Elsewhere in eastern Qalamoun, Syrian airstrikes continue to target insurgent positions throughout the mountain chains of Bara and Ruhaybah; here, at least a dozen rebel fighters have been killed in the last 48 hours.
