BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:10 A.M.) – Information has just arisen indicating that the elite ISIS Hunters unit of the Syrian Army is to join the upcoming government operation against Islamic State militants in southern Damascus.
Reports on this matter come straight from the official Twitter page of the ISIS Hunters detachment.
The unit belongs to the Syrian Army’s 5th Assault Corps; it proved itself in various battles against Islamic State forces throughout the provinces of Homs, Raqqa and Deir Ezzor during the year of 2017.
Since then the ISIS Hunters has played a key role defending government gains in eastern Syria and conducted a modest operation during the recent East Ghouta engagement.
Whilst accustomed to fighting ISIS, the Syrian Army detachment has yet to clash with the terrorist group in a fully urbanized setting, with past battles all taking place either in the vast desert spaces of Syria’s east or throughout rural towns and villages along Euphrates valley.
