BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:30 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has launched a new attack this week on the strategic mountaintop town of Kabani in northeastern Latakia.
Backed by the Russian and Syrian air forces, the 4th Armored Division began their attack by storming the southern axis of Kabani from their positions on the Zuwayqat Mountains.
No gains have been reported by the Syrian Army.
The Syrian Arab Army has attempted to advance at Kabani several times in the past; however, their attacks have been repeatedly repelled by the Turkestan Islamic Party and Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham.
Kabani’s proximity to the jihadist stronghold of Jisr Al-Shughour has made its capture a high priority for the Syrian Army’s High Command.
Unfortunately for the Syrian military, seizing Kabani is very difficult due to the elevation and jihadist fortifications.
