BEIRUT, LEBANON (2:01 P.M.) – Following the liberation of Abu Duhur city by the Syrian Arab Army on Monday, elite troops are rolling on west into the heart of Idlib province amid stiffening resistance by jihadist militias.
Military-affiliated sources report that in an ongoing operation to fully secure the countryside around Abu Duhur, assault units of the Syrian Army’s elite Tiger Forces Division have, very recently, secured the town of Al-Khiffah (west of the city) after hours of heavy clashes with Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants.
Jihadist resolve for control of Al-Khiffah was broken after precision airstrikes targeted rebel movements and positions around the town as well as reinforcements heading towards it.
To the north of this axis of advance, lay Buraghayti. Militant defenses around the town are currently being shelled by army artillery forces and firefights are already taking place on its southern outskirts, indicating that Syrian troops may be preparing strike in this direction next as well.
