BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:17 P.M.) – The Syrian Army has kicked-off a new assault in Damascus’ East Ghouta region after a day-long pause, targeting rebel defenses at the district town of Hammuriyah.
The assault – being carried out in the southernmost East Ghouta pocket – appears to have been launched from Syrian Army positions at the recently captured town of Beit Sawa and or the town of Aftris.
At the present time it is unclear which Syrian Army formations are undertaking the assault and given the axis Hammuriyah is based on, either the Tiger Forces Division or Republican Guard (or both) are involved.
Preliminary reports indicate that so far Syrian Army assault units are storming Hammuriyah’s farms as well as the first buildings of the town itself.
Updates to follow.
