BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:13 P.M.) – In a new and sudden jump, elite Syrian troops have seized the long-lost Aftris Air Defence Battalion base (near the town of Aftris itself) in Damascus’ East Ghouta region.

The advance was achieved just moments ago as part of a still ongoing operation by the Syrian Army’s Tiger Forces Division to seize the town of Aftris in the southern part of the East Ghouta pocket.

Aftris Air Defence Battalion base was seized from the control of the Syrian military by armed rebel groups in 2012 and until now had never once fallen back into the hands of government forces.

At the present time, the Syrian Army continues to press its attack across East Ghouta and to this end the town of Aftris and other nearby insurgent strongholds may yet fall before the day is out.
