BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:30 P.M.) – Elite troops of the Syrian Arab Army have almost fully reversed all gains made by militant groups in southeast Idlib following a jihadist-led counter-offensive throughout the region on Thursday, taking back a key settlement during recent hours.
Military-affiliated sources report that elite Syrian forces have restored control over the village of Mushayrifah after more than 24 hours clashes with armed rebel factions.
The Syrian Army was pushed to surrender Mushayrifah on Thursday during a determined assault by hardline jihadist fighters whose push was backed up by tank and artillery support. The withdrawal was part of a tactical action aimed at reducing losses among the ranks of Syrian troops.
In the event, the Syrian Army never really lost total control of Mushayrifah as it remained will within the range of their medium and heavy weapons support assets, giving them fire control over the village.
With Mushayrifah reclaimed, only two settlements lost by the Syrian Army yesterday remain under the control of militant groups – these being Ard az-Zurzur and Umm al-Khalakhil.
