BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:10 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is steadily advancing in the southern part of Damascus, today, liberating several areas from the so-called Islamic State (ISIS).
Led by their 105th Brigade of their Republican Guard, the Syrian Army launched a big attack on the central district of Hajar Al-Aswad this afternoon.
Following a series of intense clashes, the Syrian Army was able to achieve a major breakthrough when their forces infiltrated the Islamic State’s first line of defense and entered the central district.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Army has liberated the municipal building and Al-Ummal Hall in central Hajar Al-Aswad this afternoon.
Since entering the central district this afternoon, the Syrian Army has been attempting to secure the area and force the Islamic State to retreat east towards the Hajar Al-Aswad Cemetery.
With the Syrian Army advancing on three axes, the likelihood of the Islamic State holding their last positions in Hajar Al-Aswad are very slim.
