BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:55 A.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) surprised the Islamic State (ISIL) militants in the southeastern countryside of Homs, today, with a powerful attack on their defenses near the strategic T-2 Pumping Station.
Syrian Republican Guard units began the assault this afternoon, hitting ISIL’s defenses from their own positions at the recently liberated Humaymah area.
The Syrian Army was able to secure an important 7km advance eastward to the T-2 Pumping Station, leaving them within striking distance of this strategic site for the first time in years.
According to a military source in Palmyra, the T-2 Pumping Station is expected to fall to the Syrian Army by the end of this weekend, as ISIL lacks the high ground and territorial advantage.
The T-2 Pumping Station is the last site that is located before the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s western border.
