BEIRUT, LEBANON (6:10 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) seized two villages in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, Wednesday, after advancing south of the Tal Hassan Quarries in the Deir Hafer Plain.
Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army liberated Jirah Kabir and Daroubiyah after a fierce battle with the Islamic State (ISIL) terror organization near the strategic Jirah Military Airbase.
With Jirah Kabir and Daroubiyah under their control, the Syrian Arab Army has entered the northern part of the Maskanah Plain for the first time since they withdrew from this area in the Summer of 2012.
The Syrian Arab Army’s primary objective of this latest offensive is to capture the Islamic State’s last stronghold in the Aleppo Governorate, which is the town of Maskanah.
The capture of Maskanah will lead the Syrian Arab Army to capture the remaining territory under the Islamic State’s control in the Aleppo Governorate.
