BEIRUT, LEBANON (12:35 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and their allies resumed their offensive in the Albukamal countryside, today, targeting the Islamic State’s (ISIS) last positions around the city.
Backed by Hashd Al-Sha’abi (Iraqi paramilitary) and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Division attacked the Islamic State’s positions at Hamdan Military Airbase north of Albukamal this morning.
Not long after launching this attack, the Syrian Army and their allies were able to take full control of the Hamdan Military Airbase
after overrunning the Islamic State’s positions at this instillation.
According to a military source in Deir Ezzor, the Syrian Arab Army and their allies are working to expand the buffer-zone around the Albukamal in order to ensure the safety of the safety.
Demining units from the Syrian Army and Russian military have begun the operation to clear Albukamal of mines and IEDs that were left behind by the Islamic State – the city is still off limits for journalists.
