BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:27 P.M.) – Forces of the Syrian Arab Army have kicked-off the second phase of their greater Idlib strategic operation, attacking jihadist-led militias from a new front en-route to the Abu Duhur military airport.
Moments ago, military-affiliated sources informed Al-Masdar News that assault units of the Syrian Arab Army began a powerful attack out of southwest Aleppo via the Khanasser axis, de facto initiating the second phase of the Idlib strategic operation.
Whilst the specific army units involved in the offensive on this new front have not been revealed, preliminary reports hint that at least one battle group of the elite Tiger Forces Division is tasked leading the assault.
Clarification of the presence of even just one Tiger Forces unit would confirm that the current activities being witnessed around Khanasser are part of a major offensive operation in southwest Aleppo.
At the present time Syrian Army artillery units as well as Russian and Syrian warplanes are laying down a wall of saturation fire onto militant positions in southwest Aleppo to prepare the way for a ground assault by government troops.
