BEIRUT, LEBANON (4:30 A.M.) – On Wednesday afternoon, Syrian Army artillery units conduced a surgical strike against rebel forces in the Rastan pocket region of Homs province’s northern countryside.
The artillery barrage targeted a militant headquarters as insurgent ranks were convening. The structure itself was a water facility that had long been renovated by rebels for command and control purposes.
Virtually the entire barrage of heavy howitzer fire scored directed hits on the headquarters, completely leveling the building. According to sources, some ten rebels were killed and another 23 injured.
The Syrian Army strike was conducted in response to two days of constant ceasefire breaches by militant fighters in the Rastan region (which technically subjected to a Russian-brokered ceasefire agreement) who have been shelling government-held towns near the front with rockets and mortars.
