Moments ago in the Aleppo Governorate’s southern countryside, the Syrian Arab Army’s 154th Brigade of the 4th Mechanized Division – in coordination with Hezbollah, the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Aleppo City, and Harakat Al-Nujaba – advanced south of the Al-Arba’een Mountains (Jabal Al-Arba’een) to the village of Abu Rayal after a nonstop firefight with the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group) overnight.

The village of Abu Rayal is situated at the southwestern flank of Jabal Al-Arba’een; it was also one of the main targets for the Russian airstrikes and the Syrian Arab Army’s artillery shells these last 72 hours in southern Aleppo.

Northwest of Abu Rayal, the Syrian Arab Army’s 4th Mechanized Division and Hezbollah have continued their powerful offensive at the strategic towns of Al-Barqoum, Al-Zorba, and Khan Touman, where they were confronted by a large contingent of Islamist rebels that were predominately from Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham, Harakat Nouriddeen Al-Zinki, and Jabhat Al-Nusra.

The Syrian Armed Forces and their allies have been targeting these aforementioned towns since last Saturday; however, the Islamist rebels of Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham and Jabhat Al-Nusra have been unwilling to yield any territory to the pro-government forces, despite the constant barrage of mortar shells and bombs that are dropped onto their positions.

This is a Civilized Place for Public Discussion

Please treat this discussion with the same respect you would a public park. We, too, are a shared community resource — a place to share skills, knowledge and interests through ongoing conversation.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

The topics discussed here matter to us, and we want you to act as if they matter to you, too. Be respectful of the topics and the people discussing them, even if you disagree with some of what is being said.

Be Agreeable, Even When You Disagree

You may wish to respond to something by disagreeing with it. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
