BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:30 A.M.) – For the first time in years, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has entered the Al-Hamouriyah suburb of the East Ghouta after several days of fighting against the Islamist rebels in the area.
Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army was able to overpower the militants at the eastern axis of Al-Hamouriyah, paving the way for their units to enter the town.
According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Army expects Al-Hamouriyah to fall in the next 48 hours, as they have already managed to gain the upper-hand at this town in the East Ghouta.
Over the last few days, Al-Hamouriyah has been the scene of several pro-government demonstrations, with many residents taking to the streets to demand the militant groups leave their suburb.
The militant groups refused to leave Al-Hamouriyah, which led to tonight’s big assault.
