BEIRUT, LEBANON (10:40 P.M.) – Minutes ago, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) announced the full liberation of the east Hama pocket that had an Islamic State (ISIL) presence in central Syria.
Units from the 4th Mechanized Division and Qalamoun Shield Forces of the 3rd Division led the assault on Monday, targeting the Islamic State’s pocket that was located between the Hama and Al-Raqqa governorates.
By nightfall, the Syrian Arab Army wsa in full control of this entire pocket, including the imperative hilltop of Tal Al-Tanahij that overlooks much of the area.
Tal Al-Tanahij was the location of the Islamic State’s largest military training camp in central Syria before its liberation by the Syrian Arab Army tonight.
ISIL also used this hilltop to carry out sporadic attacks along the Syrian Army’s primary supply line to the Aleppo Governorate.

With this latest development in central Syria, the Syrian Arab Army can now afford to send relief forces to the Deir Ezzor Governorate in order to finish up operations in the Euphrates River Valley.
