Moments ago inside the provincial capital of the Dara’a Governorate, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Mechanized Division – backed by the Palestine Liberation Army (PLA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – captured half of the Dara’a Al-Balad District, including several sites in the northern sector that were under the control of the Islamist rebels from the Free Syrian Army (FSA).

According to a military source from the 5th Armored Division headquarters in the city of Izra’a, the Syrian Armed Forces have seized the Dara’a Police Station and most of the Bajaya neighborhood after a violent battle with the Islamist rebels of the Free Syrian Army and Jabhat Al-Nusra (Syrian Al-Qaeda group).

The Dara’a Balad District was originally under the control of the Islamist rebel fighters up until November of 2015; since then, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Armored Division and their allies have been able to reach the Old Dara’a border post and several neighborhoods that are located south of the Dara’a National Hospital inside the provincial capital.

Should the Syrian Armed Forces capture all of the Dara’a Al-Balad District, they will be in full control of the provincial capital, while the Islamist rebels retreat towards the Jordanian border in order to regroup.

These are not hard and fast rules, merely guidelines to aid the human judgment of our community and keep this a clean and well-lighted place for civilized public discourse.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always working to improve the discussion in some way, however small. If you are not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide reasoned counter-arguments that improve the conversation.
