BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:20 P.M.) – Minutes ago, the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) launched their imperative operation to liberate the Islamic State (ISIS) stronghold of Albukamal from their positions near the city of Al-Mayadeen.

Led by the Taha Group of the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army attacked the Islamic State’s positions east of Al-Mayadeen this afternoon.

According to a military source, the Syrian Arab Army began the offensive by firing several mortar shells and missiles towards the Islamic State’s defenses east of Al-Mayadeen.

The source added that the Syrian Army is expected to make a big advance towards Albukamal, today, while their allies from the 4th Division, Hezbollah, and IRGC make a push from the T-2 Pumping Station axis.

For me it is pepper in the eyes. Why on Earth should they start the offensive from the furthest point to al-Bukamal, to be exact from 65km away when they are 40km away from the T2 pumping station and just 15km away from Al-Qa’im on the Iraqi side of the border?

You are suggesting to redeploy all strike forces to a single frontier? That would make the liberated territories vulnerable to counter attacks. Strategically it makes more sense to attack a stronghold from several axis to spread out the defenders. They got the manpower and hardware to do so and are making good use of it.

Those places needs to be liberated anyway and also when attacking from two different directions enemy must devide strategic reserves…

They are attacking from two sides, obviously, from T2 and along the river coast.
